Hanten (I-Group)

The *hanten* is a traditional Japanese coat worn at festivals and by members of professional associations. Hirahan Senko specialises in fabrics and traditional Japanese goods made from those fabrics, including *hanten* coats. There's hardly a Japanese festival&emdash;and there are a lot of them &emdash;where you won't see someone wearing a *hanten*. They often bear the names of business sponsors, and companies and trade associations often distribute *hanten* to signify membership. Apart from the technical challenges involved in dyeing, the special quality that Hirahan needs to offer is a customised design that meets a client's contemporary promotional requirements or design vision, while maintaining a sense of the history and tradition that people associate with products such as *hanten*.
